Smooth Moves Dance Policies
PAYMENTS: Payments may be dropped in either the box inside our student drop-off waiting area OR the box located outside near the front doors. Pay with check, money order, or via Venmo @smoothmovesdance - Always label payment with dancer’s full name!
COSTUME & RECITAL FEES: Rather than charge a recital and costume fee, these payments have been incorporated into the tuition beginning with the 26-27 dance year.
STUDENT ATTIRE: Proper dance attire must always be worn during dance class. Clothing should never restrict movement and must always allow the instructor to properly observe and correct body placement. Visit our studio website @ www.smoothmovesdance.com for details.
STUDENT SHOES: Dance shoes are never to be worn anywhere but inside the studio. Outside elements damage the sole of the shoe, and carried-in dirt will create an unsafe surface on the studio floor. Everyday footwear should always be removed in the waiting area before entering onto the wooden floor in the dance area. Visit us @ www.smoothmovesdance.com for details. 🩰
STUDENT HAIR: Hair should always be SECURELY pulled-back away from dancer’s face and pulled-up, off the shoulders, for dance class.
SNACKS IN CLASS: NO food, drink, or gum is ever allowed in the studio or dressing room. Dancers arriving directly after school may eat a quick, healthy snack in the waiting area ONLY. Water is always allowed and encouraged, but it is not provided. Personal water bottles must be leak proof. Do NOT send your dancer into the studio with sugary drinks-they will be instructed to throw it in the trash!
POLICY ON ABSENCES: Consistent attendance is extremely important for a dancer’s development. If absence becomes an issue and student is no longer able to keep up with the group, they will not be allowed to participate in the spring recital. SMDS does not pro-rate tuition for absences.
LATE CLASS ARRIVAL: Dancers should be on time and prepared for class. ALWAYS use the restroom, put on dance shoes, and pull back hair BEFORE class starts. The warm-up we do is a very necessary and important part of learning to dance. Students arriving late may be asked to sit out and observe, as missing warm-up can cause injury. Excessive tardiness could lead to dismissal from the group.
STUDENT DROP-OFF / PICK-UP PROCEDURE: Always use furthest side door to ENTER the studio. Parking is available along Main Street-NEVER leave vehicle unattended in alleyway! Vehicles are to enter alley from Main and proceed to exit onto Second Street. Dancers will be released after class for PICK-UP through the front studio doors. We are NOT responsible for providing before or after class care. Dancers must wait for their ride inside of the building where we can keep a close eye on them. Younger dancers must be escorted in at drop off and met at the door for pickup.
VIEWING OF CLASSES: For safety reasons, our studio is closed to ALL visitors. Only students and staff are allowed inside the building (except during drop off or pickup), and observers are NEVER allowed in the studio area during classes. As a courtesy, outside benches are available along the front sidewalk of the building. Do NOT move the benches and PLEASE do not allow your young children to place hands on the front glass because, yes, fingerprints, but it is also extremely dangerous!
STUDENT BELONGINGS: We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items. Each student is REQUIRED to carry a dance bag for personal belongings and dance shoes. Bag is to be stored in cubby, where silenced cell phones must remain during class.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS: In cases of studio closure due to bad weather or illness, we try our very best to notify each of our families through text message. Info will be posted to social media, as well, so be sure to follow us on both Facebook and Instagram. We do NOT prorate or offer make-ups for canceled classes.
WITHDRAWAL POLICY: If a student chooses to withdraw from our studio, written notice (either text or email) must be received by Mrs. Lindsey at least 30 days prior to leaving. Dancer will be responsible for the next payment if proper notification is not given. Please be aware that NO pro-rating tuition or refund of fees will be issued, and any costumes, accessories, or studio wear purchased prior to withdrawal but pending arrival will be forfeited and considered property of SMDS. Competitive dancers will also owe a reblocking fee (see team contract for details).
