Preschool

Open to girls and boys starting at 3 years old (sometimes age two, if 3rd birthday is early in the dance season).  Class meets for 45 minutes each week and will perform a dance at the Spring recital.



Our experienced instructors focus on rhythm, balance, flexibility, coordination, and basic motor skills through age-appropriate music, games, and creative activities. Weekly lessons also reinforce early learning concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, shapes, and left/right recognition. Classes are kept small, with assistant instructors providing individualized attention to help each dancer grow in confidence and creativity.

Dancers must be potty-trained prior to enrollment.


Children's Tap

Open to girls and boys age 4 and up.  Class meets for 45 minutes each week and will perform in the Spring Recital.



Tap classes begin with a warm-up and focus on rhythm, timing, and technique. Dancers learn skills appropriate to their experience level, from basic tap fundamentals to more advanced combinations and progressions. Fun games and creative teaching methods keep classes engaging while ensuring every student is challenged and successful.


Children's Musical Theatre

Open to girls and boys ages 7 and up. Class meets for one hour each week and will perform in the Spring Recital.



Musical Theatre combines dance, singing, and acting to help students develop strong stage presence and performance skills. Open to beginners and intermediate dancers, classes include jazz-based warm-ups, choreography, acting exercises, and creative activities designed to build confidence, expression, and versatility in a fun and supportive environment.




Children's & Intermediate Ballet / Lyrical

Children's Ballet / Lyrical

Open to girls and boys ages 5 and up.  Class meets for one hour per week and will perform in the Spring Recital.



Children’s Ballet introduces dancers to classical ballet through barre work, center exercises, and foundational technique. Students develop balance, flexibility, proper placement, and ballet vocabulary while building strength, grace, and confidence. Fun props and creative activities help keep young dancers engaged and excited to learn.



Intermediate Ballet / Lyrical

Open to girls and boys who have been dancing for several years and are looking for a more advanced option.  Class meets for one hour each week and will perform in the Spring Recital.  



Intermediate Ballet/Lyrical builds on classical ballet fundamentals through structured barre work, center combinations, and across-the-floor progressions. Dancers refine technique, strength, flexibility, balance, and artistry while expanding their ballet vocabulary and developing greater control, precision, and confidence. Classes challenge students to grow technically while also learning to identify .


Children's  & Intermediate Jazz / Hip Hop

Children's Jazz / Hip-Hop

Open to girls and boys age 5 and up.  Class meets for one hour each week and will perform in the Spring Recital.



Children’s Jazz/Hip-Hop introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of jazz and hip-hop through fun, upbeat music and age-appropriate activities. Classes focus on coordination, flexibility, rhythm, basic technique, and self-expression while building confidence and performance skills. Creative games and engaging movement exercises keep dancers active, learning, and having fun.

Intermediate Hip-Hop

Open to girls and boys 3rd grade and older.  Meets for one hour each week and will perform in the Spring Recital. Intermediate class is geared specifically towards elementary school and junior high aged dancers.



Intermediate Jazz/Hip-Hop builds on foundational jazz and hip-hop technique through warm-ups, flexibility training, center combinations, and across-the-floor progressions. Dancers develop strength, coordination, musicality, and performance quality while exploring a variety of jazz and hip-hop styles. Classes encourage confidence, expression, and artistry in a fun, energetic environment.


Summer Ballet Technique

Beginner to intermediate level of ballet technique class.  Class is an hour each week and NO costume will be needed for spring recital as this is a non-performance class.  In Ballet Technique our instructors use a variety of methods including traditional ballet barre, ballet floor barre, and modern contemporary center barre in order to correct and improve the overall body placement and turn-out of our dancers.  Yoga and Pilates are often incorporated into our workout to promote strength, flexibility, and balance, and core conditioning is worked into every lesson plan.  This class is for those serious about wanting to grow as a dancer and striving to improve their technique.  Intermediate and Advanced level competition team dancers are required to attend weekly, but class is open to others that qualify.



Competition Dance Teams

Anyone who is not currently enrolled as a student at SMDPAS must audition to earn a spot on one of our award-winning competition dance teams.  SMDPAS has competed in various categories including jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and character.  Please contact us to set-up an appointment.  ***Students new to our competitive program must participate in a recreational class for at least one consecutive year prior to joining.  Exceptions may be considered through an audition process that meets all team requirements paired with a solid recommendation from instructor(s) at dancer's current studio ***

The policies of Smooth Moves Dance are meant to ensure a positive environment for all staff and students with an emphasis on proper studio etiquette.



ATTENDANCE

Consistent attendance is critical for a dancer to keep up with their peers and learn the choreography of their recital routine.  

Students must arrive 5-10 minutes before class to allow time to use the bathroom, dress, remove jewelry, and neatly put hair back.



All students must be READY TO DANCE at the start of each class.



STUDIO RULES

Students must be dressed properly, tie up hair neatly, and remove jewelry for EVERY class.



Students and parents are responsible for their belongings. Do not bring valuables into the studio or waiting area.  Smooth Moves is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced property.



All students MUST be picked up within 10 minutes of the end of class.



NO gum, food, or drinks other than water permitted in the studio.



NO parents/caregivers/siblings in the studio while class is in session.



NO loud noise is allowed in the waiting area when class is in session.



NO photography or videotaping allowed at Smooth Moves performances or in the studio, without permission.



CLASS ETIQUETTE

Eyes and attention must always be on the teacher.



Be appreciative of corrections and apply them.



Be kind to your classmates. Rudeness is unacceptable.



No talking or leaning on the barre during class.



Never stop in the middle of an exercise.



Leaving class before it is over is not acceptable.



After class, applaud teacher and say, “Thank you.”
